Gold Forever
Chapter 24: D’awwwww
Louis’ POV
“Way to be punctual Louis” She pronounced my name ‘lew-is’ in fake annoyance. “I expected you for tea and hear you are hours later than expected.”
“Well what would you like to do now?” I asked her an amused grin on my face.
“I have a previous engagement to attend to ..” She said. We were in her bedroom now and I sat on her couch as she made her way to the closet,
“Oh I’m sorry Lydia I’ll get out of your hair.” I said.
“Nonsense,” she snorted, rolling her eyes “I asked you to tea to see if you’d come with me and now you’re here just in time. I was hoping to get a chat with you in between but I guess we’ll just have to wait.” She sighed, disappointed. “I just haven’t had anyone to talk to, ya know? I mean just mindless talking like we usually do but real things as well.” She said, pulling out a full made outfit to wear. She began to peel off her shirt and I turned away out of courtesy.
“I know I feel the same way except I do have the boys,” I said grinning to myself. I know its bad to say but it felt good to know Lydia missed me because I had definitely missed her.
“Well lucky you I only had Eleanor.” She grumbled.
“I thought you loved Eleanor?!” I asked.
“I do! but you know how she is with Janice.” She said, I groaned a bit. Janice was a nice, heavy set, friend of Eleanor and Lydia’s, the thing was she was too nice, clingy even. She was always on your back, complimenting you, breathing down your neck. This was all second hand information I had gotten from Lydia of course, and Lydia is very strict about her personal space. Anyway, Eleanor is very sweet about Janice. Janice has a very hard time making friends so naturally Eleanor is too kind about her clingyness. Thats just Eleanor’s way. Lydia looks at things a bit differently.
“Yea by the sounds of it Janice is a bit much,” I agreed with my best friend, understandingly. I had dealt with the annoying type before.
“I’m decent.” Lyd informed me. I turned back to see Lydia looking cute in a sweetheart cream and flower dress, which was different. Lyd was the hair up, sports shorts and a sweatshirt type of girl.
“Well you look beautiful!” I said in a joking voice though what I was saying was from the heart. She blushed and giggled.
“Well we are going out!” She said, lacing up a pair of flats. I looked down and approved of my standard outfit. I word tan chinos and a red half-sleeve sweater.
“Where are we going?” I asked.
“You shall see..” She said, trying to sound mysterious as she pulled on a washed out jean jacket. She really did look good. She released her hair from where it has been set in a bun and it fell into full bouncy, red curls. She shoved the band in her bag before picking it up and setting it in front of her vanity mirror and checking her reflection. She groaned lightly, letting her hand delicately run over the left side of her face.
“Whats up?” I asked her. She frowned.
“I ate chocolate yesterday” She said.
“Did you wash?” I asked. She shook her head and I allowed myself to chuckle. She shook her head at me but chuckled a bit as well.
“I hate you,” She muttered under her breath. It was exchanges like this that i enjoyed because it showed how well we knew each other. I was her only friend who knew she broke out from eating chocolate. I also know chocolate was her favorite candy. “Ick,” she muttered one last time before slinging her arm through her bag and shutting off the light to her room, expecting me to follow her.
“Mom! We’re leaving and will be back for dinner! Make sure the Parsnips and Carrots aren’t to chunky! Or to mushy for that matter!” She called. Her mom ignored her control issues.
“Take the volvo!” She shouted back, but Lyd was already out the door.
“Roger that! Thanks Amy!” I shouted to her, hearing her chuckle a bit. I closed the front door behind me. “Your mom loves me you know,” I told Lyd who was already halfway down the path taking her keys out of her bag. “You know you shouldn’t be fishing through your bag while walking.” I told her in an annoying voice. She grunted something annoyedly but I was unbothered since it wasn’t actual english. “Your mom wanted you to take the volvo.” I relayed, as she finally dug the jingling keys from the bag and began walking again. I slipped in the passenger seat of the midnight blue car, still not able to drive and watched as Lyd got in her own side.
“Urgh.. this car doesn’t like me.” She groaned, turning the key in the ignition and putting the car in drive.
“Just because you hit the garbage cans that one time doesn’t mean it doesn’t like you.” I said, grinning. She shook her head.
“I much prefer the Camry.” She said propping her arm on the back of my chair and twisting her neck as she began to back out of the driveway.
“Too bad this is your car, you should be happy to have one.” I said. She only rolled her eyes, keeping them on the road. She put her palm in my direction.
“Talk to the hand.” She said in a funny accent. I pretended to be a girly type of mad a her. She used the hand that was in the air to turn on the radio. The Wanted came on and she cheered rather enthusiastically. I groaned.
“THE SUN GOES DOWN
THE STARS COME OUT
AND ALL THAT COUNTS IS HERE AND NOW
MY UNIVERSE WITH NEVER BE THE SAME
IM GLAD YOU CAME,” She belted exaggeratedly along to the song, rolling down the windows as the car shook to the beat. A woman jogging with a strolled turned to glare at us, thats how loud it was. I turned it down and Lyd began banging her back against the drivers seat, dancing.
“The Wanted is a bunch of tools.” I muttered. She gasped in playful offense.
“And by the end of xfactor that will be you and your ‘boys’” She said funnily. “Just five ‘tools’ in a boyband.” She said. I rolled my eyes.
“As if..” I said. She continued to sing and then I thought to myself a bit about what our band would be percepted as.. I mean.. everyone thought The Wanted were a pack of tools. What would One Direction be? Jerks? Fake? Gay? I was jerked to my senses when the radio shut off and Lydia’s keys jingled in her hand. We were outside a common lunch place. It was a bar and grill type place and we’re eighteen.. so basically… beer.
“We’re heeerrree!” She sang.
“Really Lydia?” I asked, earning a glare for the name. “We’re gonna have lunch out before your mom’s dinner?” I asked, it seemed a little stupid.
“Really, Really!” She answered brightly. I sighed and followed her to the entrance. I was hit with the air conditioning. And a lot of familiar faces.
“SURPRISE!” They called. A grin spread across my face as I looked around. I saw some old mates, my crew from ‘Grease’, Stan, Eleanor, a girl who must be Janice, and My football team. Two generic drug store made banners hung from the ceiling. One said ‘Welcome Home’ and the other said ‘congrats!’.
Then I was swarmed. First I was hit with a flirty, sweet hug from Eleanor. Then an Awkward spur of the moment hug from Janice, who obviously didn’t want to be left out. A bro Hug with stan and half of the football team, and some from familiar girls. An outsider would have assumed I had been gone for months.
Each face came with a greeting, Each greeting similar to the last. ‘Missed you, bro’; ‘seems like forever’; ‘saw your audition, you were great’; ‘congrats’; ‘cheers mate’. Everyone blended and I was dragged to our table which was basically all the tables in the place pushed together to fit basically everyone I know. Hours passed like minutes and you couldn’t drag the smile off my face. And all of a sudden I looked out the window and it was dark, nine o’clock. The crowd hadn’t thinned though. I looked around to see everyone with a beer in hand chatting happily to whoever was near them. It was quite the get together. Stan, my best mate noticed me looking around and grinned as well.
“This was a right good time, yeah mate?” He asked, I gave him an enthusiastic nod.
“Yeah all my friends are here!” I said, emphasizing the all. I looked from the football team to my neighborhood friends back to the people I knew from school, all different groups.
“Yeah that Lydia really is a people person. Had me come over and list everyone you like,” Stan told me. My smile widened.
“Lydia?” I asked.
“Yeah,” Wow, She really is the best. How did I ever find a girl like her to be my best friend? I looked around the room for bright hair or the sound of her contagious laugh but I didn’t find it.
“Do you know where she is mate?” I asked Stan. He shook his head and swallowed what beer was in her mouth.
“Left some hours ago mate, she looked for you but told me to make sure you had a good time and got home. ‘said something about being home for dinner.” He said. I cursed under my breath, remembering our conversation with Amy and the parsnips…
It was eleven forty five when I pushed through the fence, up into Lyd’s treehouse, and through her bedroom window. The sound of Lydia’s even breathing and my own un even panting filled the room. I crept over to her until I was right next to her bed. She stirred, Lydia was a light sleeper.
“Louis..” She mumbled questioningly.
“Hey Lyd.” I whispered.
“What are you doing here?” She asked, squinting, her sleepy voice was adorable.
“I came to say thank you,” I said, bending down close to kiss her cheek. She giggled lightly.
“Lou you smell of beer..” she sighed. I opened my mouth wide and breathed heavily into her face. It scrunched at the heat in discomfort and we both giggled before she began dozing off again.
“Lyd are you awake?” I asked, being a pest.
“…mmm” She moaned.
“Lyd, I love you.”
“eh- huvee- wu-tuuh” She mumbled. And with that I climbed back out the window.
(Author’s Note: Wow this took really long to write and edit and I have no clue why, I didn’t even procrastinate :( I made this chapter extra long to make up for neglecting gf lately. Here is Lydia’s Party outfit: http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=55110122)
